Hey folks,
Here's the information you'll need to make sure you have all the necessary permits for the Rally. The following states will allow you to use your resident state's OHV stickers in Moab. If your state is not on the list, you'll have to get a UTAH OHV sticker (Please see below): California Colorado Connecticut Delaware Idaho Indiana Kansas Michigan Minnesota Montana North Dakota Ohio Oregon Pennsylvania Texas Vermont Washington Okay, if your state is not on the list above, you'll need a permit from Utah. Please go here for the non-resident OHV application: http://www.stateparks.utah.gov/ohv/d...pplication.pdf My recommendation would be to do this ahead of time, and not wait till you get into town. But, if you're a procrastinator, here's the local places you can get it done as well: DEAD HORSE POINT STAR ROUTE 313 MOAB, UT, 84532-0609 435-259-2614 ELITE MOTORCYCLE TOURS 1310 MURPHY LANE MOAB, UT, 84532 435-259-7621 MAVERIK COUNTRY STORE 985 S HWY 191 MOAB, UT, 84532 When applying in person, you will need the following: 1. Proof of residency: drivers license or other state issued identification. 2. Proof of ownership Revenues generated from OHV user fees are dedicated to construction, improvement, operation and maintenance of OHV trails. Okay, last but not least, if you have children that will be riding a UTV, ATV, or dirtbike, you need to call 800-648-7433 and ask for the non-resident course testing materials. They will send you a manual, test, and answer sheet that your children will have to pass(in your presence ), so it shouldn't be hard. They will then issue you a 30 day temp permit, and keep in mind they will need to be 8 years old to when they get a driver's license to fit into this category. I called one of the registration places, and they said if your UTV is street legal, and you are visiting less than 14 days, no sticker is necessary. Also, he said UTV's legal to drive in AZ are not legal to drive on the streets in UT. Once again, I'd highly recommend doing all of this way ahead of time, especially if you have children. You can't do the children's requirement when you get there, so make sure you don't wait too long. Chris |

************Please Read***************
Participants provide their own four wheel drive vehicle, take care of their own food and non-alcoholic beverages for the trip. Suggested essentials, beyond plenty of water, include sun protection, and layered clothing in case of changing weather circumstances that are always a possibility during the spring in southeastern Utah. There is truly something for everyone here in Moab Utah. That is why it is referred to so often as the Mecca of 4wheeling! A few trails are nearly accessible for 2 wheel drive vehicles, while the most difficult runs require seriously modified vehicles.. Vehicles will be inspected prior to any guided runs leaving the arena. Vehicle safety equipment is extremely important. It is essential that participants stay on the designated routes (as well as everyone enjoying the backcountry near Moab Utah), and that some basic rules are followed. By signing the registration, be sure to read that you agree to these conditions. They are: RULE 1: " A vehicle must have a roll bar to participate in the Utv Rally and have seatbelts for all occupants. The roll bar must cover all occupants." RULE 2: " Vehicles must have safety equipment adequate for legal operation in Utah. We mean seat belts, and we urge everyone to use them. Having proper brakes, lights, etc. is implied in this rule and should go without saying." Rule 3: " All vehicles will be escorted to and from the trails by local Law Enforcement. Unauthorized travel not recommended." RECOMMENDATIONS: We recommend that each vehicle carry a fire extinguisher, first aid kit, tow strap, and spare tire. What about Permits? All of the trips travel across federal and Utah state lands on established roads, and even through some private land sections. Most road/trails are left over from the mining days which provided a boom to the area in the 1950s. STAY ON THE TRAIL/ROADS. The organization files the required permits according to the number of participants in each group, and pays the associated fees which are included in the cost of registration. It is critical that participants respect the land and follow the leaders staying to the designated route. This is absolutely essential for anyone visiting the backcountry in and around Moab Utah throughout the year. |
